Your Community Food Store

Thursday, December 1, 2011

Momentum is currently building with the development of a local Food Co-op in the Queenston Street/ Downtown neighbourhood. Being able to access nutrious, wholesome, local food is difficult if not impossible for many residents living in this community. The Food Co-op is looking to meet those needs and wants to know what you think?

What do you look for when you choose a grocery store?

What types of foods do you prefer?

Would you be interested in becoming a member of a Food Co-op?

For more information on the Food Co-op check out their community blog.

With their kick-off on May 29th from 4-5 p.m. at Kernahan Park School, this program is open to any youth or kid who is interested in an hour of pick-up soccer. All you need to do is show up, as this is a free event and will continue throughout the summer every Sunday. Tell your friends and neighbours about this great community initiative.

Calling All Poets!

Friday, April 1, 2011

We are looking for a phrase or quote that will give focus and direction to our mural. Two themes that we want to work within are "New Beginnings/Fresh Starts" and "People helping People/Building Together." If anyone can come up with an inspiring phrase using these themes that would be very helpful. We want something that will provoke creativity and an image. Leave a comment with your ideas for a slogan, a slogan for the Queenston Street community to grab hold of!

Hidden Tapestry Meeting

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Our next meeting has been scheduled for March 30 at 7 p.m. at Start Me Up Niagara. Please come and share your thoughts, ideas and vision for Queenston Street. Now that we have an actual location for the mural, we can really start to visualize what we would like to have happen.

Spread the word!

Exciting News!

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

It is official: we have a location committed to Hidden Tapestry. Burtnik Printing Inc. has agreed to donate their wall for the mural project. Thanks so much to Mike and Kathy for your generous support and your willingness to give back to the community in such a meaningful way. We look forward to working with you further and bringing new colour to the walls of Queenston.

Brainstorming Meeting

Friday, March 4, 2011

Thanks so much to the enthusiastic bunch who came to the first Community Brainstorming Meeting on Wednesday. We had some great discussion about what we would like to see on the walls of Queenston Street. For full meeting notes, visit our notes page.

Out of our meeting, we had three ideas emerge as potential themes for the mural.
1. People helping people
2. A Queenston Street slogan
3. New beginnings/new starts

This was a great start. We will continue to brainstorm and gather community input for the rest of this month. All the ideas will then be brought before the "Tapestry Team" who will make the final decisions as to what will be painted.

To make your submissions for who you would like to be on the Tapestry Team, please contact me or leave a comment at the end of this post. The Tapestry Team will be chosen at the end of March with our first meeting in the first week of April.

I am really excited about this project. How about you? What are you thoughts? What would visually represent the three themes that were identified? What positive slogan would identify Queenston Street? What do you want Queenston to be known for? Leave your thoughts in the comment section. If blogging is new to you, refer to the right side pannel for instructions on how to leave comments. Can't wait to hear from you.

Community Meeting

Thursday, February 17, 2011

What would you paint on the walls of your community? Come share your thoughts on what positive images you would like to display on the walls of the Queenston Street community through a larger than life mural. The wall that we are painting on is yet to be determined, but we are hoping that if we can gain enough community momentum and enthusiasm the building will fall into place.
Come and share your thoughts, brainstorm ideas and get involved.
If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact us.

Street Painting

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

In my searching for ideas for the Hidden Tapestry Project mural I stumbled across this idea. I've heard a lot of complaints about the traffic on Berryman Ave. and people driving too fast. Do you think this may be a potential solution?
